OpenCode
MIT license, no vendor account involved; with a local model, data never leaves the server, and teams get a console with budgets, SSO and the Go Teams plan.

- From Russia
- The client is open source and works with any key, including a local model; paying for Go from Russia is unconfirmed.

What changed in price and access
- OpenCode 2.2.3 connects Claude through an installed Claude Code: the Claude Agent provider uses its login and models ↗
- OpenCode launched Go Teams: $20 per member a month, each with their own limits on open models, one company bill ↗
- OpenCode Console added policies: monthly budgets and rules for who may use which models, providers and tools ↗
What it gives a manager
- Console budgets: a monthly cap for the whole team, for each person or for a service account; once it is spent, new requests are blocked
- Go Teams is $20 per person a month – everyone gets their own limits on open models, one company bill, no seats to pre-buy
- SSO through Okta, Entra ID or Google plus SCIM sync: remove someone from the directory and their access and keys are revoked
- Spend by day, model and person in one report, exportable as CSV for the last 7, 30 or 90 days
Weak points
- Jimmy Garcia's agent could not read images and never checked its render: 30 seconds of black on a 4:07 video, captions covering the picture.
- Jimmy Garcia's pre-production files (title, description, hashtags) came out empty, so the published video went up with placeholders.
- A Claude subscription cannot be connected directly, Anthropic forbids it; since 2.2.3 only through an installed Claude Code.
- Bryan Software: on simple tasks 3 to 6 times more tokens than Pi, with users reporting 12k to 24k tokens for a plain 'hi' versus 4k.
How to check this agent’s work
- A console budget per person or service account stops the agent when the limit is reached.
- Use a second model as the critic: OpenCode switches provider within the same session.
- Export spend to CSV weekly: you see who spends on which tasks.
Picking an agent takes an evening. After that the question is not the price but whether you can trust what it did.
You’re on the list
We will write when enrolment opens. Meanwhile, here is what the course covers.
The short course programmeWhat the course covers: programme and price
Strengths
- Open source, 75+ providers and free with your own keys; Go is $10, Go Plus $40 and Go Teams $20 per person a month.
- Bryan Software: about 7k tokens of baseline overhead before you type, against roughly 33k for Claude Code, with noticeably better caching.
- For Jimmy Garcia the free tool transcribed 14 minutes into 103 phrases, cut an EDL and rendered 1080p in about four hours.
- Plan and build modes, custom agents via config, LSP feeding compiler errors back to the model, and resumable sessions.
Alternatives
Who it is for
- Team of up to fifteen people without a security sign-off
- Company with a ban on external services
- Team that wants a flat bill for open models and a cap for each person
Example from a review: Edit and publish a video through an existing pipeline
Jimmy Garcia gave OpenCode the same skills, production rules and prompt as Claude Code: turn three screen recordings and two voice tracks into a finished, published video. Running NVIDIA's Nemotron 3 Ultra in the cloud at no extra charge, OpenCode transcribed 14 minutes of speech into 103 timestamped phrases, built a narration script from his own words, cut an EDL, graded the clips, rendered 1080p and mastered the audio to -14.1 LUFS, all in just over four hours. But it could not read image files and never looked at its own output: the published 4:07 video had 30 seconds of black at the end, an empty 26-second end card and captions covering most of the frame. His verdict: he would switch for free, but it is not there yet.

The video authors’ opinions, not our conclusions.
- I Pay $100 a Month for Claude Code. I Gave Free OpenCode the Same Job. · Jimmy Garcia III (Claude Code), 3 September 2026The reviewer says the editing was genuinely good, but what you pay a harness for is checking and validating its own output, and OpenCode had no equivalent.
- OpenCode vs Codex: Which AI Coding Agent Is Actually Better? (2026) · Tinkr | Reviews & Guides, 18 August 2026The reviewer frames OpenCode as a harness rather than a Codex rival: it wins on model freedom and cost, while ChatGPT subscribers are better off with Codex.
- OpenCode: Is It Worth Switching To? · Bryan Software, 27 August 2026The reviewer's line: switch to OpenCode Go for complex work, but for short, simple back-and-forth a lighter tool like Pi is the better call.
- Is Pi the Best Coding Agent? Pi vs OpenCode vs Claude Code · pookie, 24 May 2026The reviewer moved from OpenCode to Pi for minimalism; he credits OpenCode for open source, any model and easy custom agents, but says it feels like a separate app.

- In the ServerFlow benchmark across 16 tasks, the shells cluster together; OpenClaw and OpenCode held up more consistently than the rest; in one of seven runs the agent read 280K tokens and produced no working result. Source (in Russian)
- A local server with an H100 costs upward of 6.5 million rubles; payback at these volumes exceeds 160 years. Source (in Russian)
