What changed in price and access

  1. Microsoft: from December 1 new Copilot Business licences bought through resellers have usage billing on by default, capped at 4,000 credits (about $40) per user a month ↗
  2. Copilot Cowork added GPT 6.1 Sol and xAI's Grok 4.7, plus projects that keep one initiative's tasks, instructions and files together ↗
  3. Copilot Cowork uses usage-based billing: the bill scales with the work you delegate ↗

Weak point: Credits are billed on top of the Copilot licence: 1 credit = 1 cent by default, and model choice is the biggest cost lever.

How to check: Keep approval before sending on event-triggered tasks: the agent prepares, a person sends. More below ↓

What it gives a manager

  • Event-driven tasks: a client email or a Teams @mention arrives and Cowork drafts the reply or brief, then waits for your approval.
  • Edits existing Word, Excel and PowerPoint files in SharePoint and OneDrive and keeps version history, so reports need no rebuild.
  • Spending policies: credit limits per person or group, plus a Cowork usage report in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
  • Projects: tasks, instructions and files for one initiative stay together, and a past chat can be attached to a prompt as context.

Weak points

  • Credits are billed on top of the Copilot licence: 1 credit = 1 cent by default, and model choice is the biggest cost lever.
  • When a group hits 100% of its monthly spend-policy quota, Cowork stops for everyone under that policy.
  • You cannot call the Researcher agent (free with the licence) from inside Cowork, only a research skill that burns credits.
  • Works only in regions Anthropic supports; inside the EU Data Boundary only GPT models are available.

How to check this agent’s work

  1. Keep approval before sending on event-triggered tasks: the agent prepares, a person sends.
  2. Check report figures against the source spreadsheet: the agent's edits to Office files show in version history.
  3. Watch the credit usage report: a sudden jump usually means the task was set up badly.

Picking an agent takes an evening. After that the question is not the price but whether you can trust what it did.

Stop re-checking AI by hand

Checking everything an agent does by hand throws away the gain. Not checking means made-up numbers in a report. We are preparing a short course: in a week you build a check for one of your recurring AI outputs – a second agent and a couple of automatic cross-checks find the errors before your manager does.

What the course covers: programme and price

Strengths

  • Lives inside Microsoft 365: sends email, builds Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, searches SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • Every sensitive action (email, meeting, Teams post) waits for approval; a running task can be paused, resumed or cancelled.
  • One meeting-prep request returned a Word brief, finished a half-built deck and listed key risks in about 18 to 20 minutes.
  • 14 built-in skills plus up to 50 custom ones; skills can be shared with colleagues, and tasks run on a schedule or on an event.

Alternatives

What it can do for you
  • A Word report from emails and SharePoint files
  • An Excel summary sheet from tracker exports
  • A quarterly results presentation
  • A meeting brief that starts itself when an email or a Teams @mention arrives
Example from a review: Prepping for a quarterly customer review

The presenter asked Cowork to get him ready to run an executive business review with Contoso Coffee: an executive briefing document, a summary deck and a list of key risks. The job took roughly 18 to 20 minutes; Cowork picked the Word and PowerPoint skills on its own, wrote the brief and completed a deck he had started with three slides, adding five risks, six questions and one commitment per attendee that nobody asked for. The same question in plain Chat came back as a text summary in under 10 seconds, but with no files. Outputs landed in OneDrive under Documents/Cowork/Tasks.
